Cops nab youth hiding in UP after firing bullets on lover’s mother a month ago; brought to city

Nagpur: In a major success, Imambada police arrested a youth who is accused of firing bullets on a woman for refusing to marry her daughter with him. The accused youth was absconding since then but was arrested from a hiding in Uttar Pradesh and brought to Nagpur. The incident of firing had taken place on October 18 in Siraspeth area of city.

According to details, the accused Prabhakar Pandit was in love with a girl residing in Siraspeth area of city. On October 18, around 7.30 in the morning, the accused Prabhakar reached his lover’s house for marriage talks with her parents. However, the girl’s mother Geeta Dongre opposed her daughter’s marriage with the accused Prabhakar. Enraged by the development, Prabhakar pumped bullets on Geeta Dongre and since then was absconding.

Geeta was rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital with bullet injury on her chest and was admitted in Ward No. 16. She recovered from the injury and was later discharged from the hospital.

Imambada police had registered an attempt to murder case against the accused Prabhakar Pandit and were hunting him since then. The cops tasted the first success when they got a tip-off that Prabhakar was hiding at a place in Uttar Pradesh. Subsequently, acting on the information, Imambada police went to Uttar Pradesh and in a coordinated action arrested the absconding accused Prabhakar Pandit and brought him to Nagpur. He was likely to be produced in a court on Thursday for Police Custody Remand.

According to reports, Sukhdeo Dongre, along with wife Geeta and two daughters, lives in Siraspeth area of the city. Professionally, Sukhdeo is a truck driver. His younger daughter has a love marriage and the elder daughter is unmarried. On the Dussehra day, Sukhdeo Dongre and his family had shifted to their new home in the area. The accused Prabhakar Pandit was a frequent visitor to Dongre family’s house. On October 18, when the accused Prabhakar expressed his wish to marry with the girl, her mother Geeta Dongre opposed his proposal. Outraged by the development Prabhakar allegedly fired bullets on Geeta and fled the spot. Since then he went absconding but was eventually nabbed by Imambada police from a hiding in Uttar Pradesh.
