Nagpur: A section of the city police have expressed concern on the manner processions of some political bigwigs and gangster had hit the roads celebrating the spirit of Independence Day.

The processions, taken out by some well-known political names and some top dons, have given a wake up call to a section of cops. Sources said gangster-turned-real estate dealer Santosh Ambekar was among the ones who had taken out a procession. Ambekar’s I-day rally had substantial strength and it marked the domination of the don in the city.

A senior officer said that Ambekar or any other person has a right to assemble and take out procession in peaceful manner. “Ambekar is unlikely to make another mistake that would pave way for yet again a case against him bringing his position on the threshold of facing another stringent measure like Maharashtra control of organized crime Act (MCOCA),” said a senior officer.

Sources said some of the revellers in the processions were in an inebriated condition. Possibilities of some of the revellers possessing firearms to intimidate opponents are also not being ruled out, said a cop.
