The village Dabhdi drew attention of entire country as Modi, during the campaign for 2014 Lok Sabha election, had held a ‘Chai pe Charcha’ there. At that time, Modi had promised to implement various schemes for uplift of farmers. The village Dabhdi was specifically chosen for the programme for most farmer suicides. Till to date, 17 farmer suicides have been reported from village Dabhdi. Kailas Mankar’s suicide is second one after the ‘Chai pe Charcha.’
