Nagpur: One of the two policemen riding on a bike lost his leg after a speeding car hit them, and the trailer approaching from behind ran over them, near Mhalgi Nagar Square on Friday. Another cop also got injured in the accident. Both the policemen are identified as Sudhakar Fattuji Katole, 48 and Nitin Yerpude.
The car could not be identified as it sped away soon after the incident. The trailer driver too fled the spot leaving his vehicle behind.
Police sources informed that Traffic Department constable Sudhakar Katole was accompanied by Police constable Yerpude while approaching from Mhalgi Nagar square towards Uday Nagar square on their two wheeler (no. MH-31/CS-1749).
Meanwhile, an unidentified car hit them from behind, leading them to fall. Before the two could get up, they were crushed under the wheels of a trailer approaching from behind. Katole was grievously injured as the trailer ran over his legs. Upon the complaint received from Katole, Assistant Police Inspector at Hudkeshwar police station AK Lingnurkar registered the case against the absconding drivers under sections 279, 337, 338, 134 and 177, IPC.
