Burglars target timber merchant, 3 houses, a woman; decamp with booty worth lakhs

Nagpur: Burglars had a field day as the miscreants targeted a timber merchant, three residences and a woman and decamped with cash, jewelleries and other valuables collectively worth lakhs.

In a broad day light incident, an unidentified ruffian burgled a cash of Rs 2.85 lakh from a timber merchant’s vehicle in Lakadganj area on Monday. The victim Suresh Patel, owner of J J Timber, Lakadganj, had withdrawn the cash from his account in Maa Umiya Cooperative Bank. He kept the cash in utility box of his two-wheeler (MH-31/DE 8596) and went to his brother’s J J Timber Market, Kacchi Visa Oswal Bhavan in the afternoon. In the meanwhile, an unidentified thief opened the utility box of the two-wheeler with the help of a screw driver and decamped with the cash of Rs 2.85 kept there.

Lakadganj API Bhole booked the burglar under Section 379 of IPC and launched a search to nab him.
Three houses were struck by the miscreants in different areas in the city. Prabhatkumar Mrutyunjay Banerjee (75), resident of Friends Colony, Katol Road, had gone to his son in Pune on 21.5.2016. In the meanwhile, his neighbours informed him of housebreaking at his residence. On return, Prabhatkumar found his TV, camera, mobile phone, watch and cash of Rs 6000 stolen. The collective value of stolen stuff stood at Rs 1.68 lakh. Gittikhadan PSI Narwade has registered a case and probing the matter further. Similarly, residences of Shyam Ramesh Morande (26) of Vinoba Bhave Nagar, Yashodhara Nagar area and Niraj Lalluprasad Dixit (34) of Godhni, Mankapur were burgled. From Morande’s house, jewellery worth Rs 1.15 lakh were stolen and Niraj Dixit was relieved of booty worth Rs 82,000 including gold ornaments and cash Rs 15,000. Yashodhara Nagarand Mankapur police have registered cases and investigating the thefts.

A woman, Sindhu Pradeep Bhagat (42), resident of Gittikhadan, Gorewada Road, along with husband, had gone to attend wedding of her relative at Sarnat Boudha Vihar, Bhamti in Pratapnagar area on Monday. As Sindhu was enjoying the reception, an unidentified person removed her mangalsutra worth Rs 70,000 from her neck.

Pratapnagar PSI Tayde has booked the unidentified burglar under Section 379 of IPC and searching him or her.
