Nagpur: Criminals posing as bogus policemen on Tuesday created havoc in Nagpur and tricked and robbed three elderly women of their gold ornaments worth Rs 3,55,000 in three separate incidents.

According to police, in the first incident, Sahina Parvin Rafique Ahmed (67), resident of Lal Bangla, Anant Nagar, Nagpur was going to her relatives by walking at about 9 am on Tuesday. When she reached in front of Firoze Kirana Stores located in Sadikabad Colony, two men in the age group of 35-50 years approached her. Both the goons convinced Sahina that they are policemen and scared her by telling that a dacoity has taken place at Puja Verma’s house and she should keep her gold ornaments safely in her bag. Later, the bogus cops told her to remove the gold bangles and bracelet and pack them in a paper. Pretending to help her in packing the ornaments, the goons cleanly tricked and grabbed the booty worth Rs 1,70,000 and vanished from the spot. However, sensing something amiss, Sahina checked the bag and to her shock, found the bag empty. But it was too late. She lodged a complaint with Gittikhadan Police Station in this connection. Acting on her complaint, PSI Kaore booked the two bogus policemen under Sections 170, 419, 420, 34 of the IPC and searching for them.

In the second incident, another woman Varsha Gopal Demle (55), resident of Rachana Apartment, Flat No. 2, Ramdaspeth, Nagpur was proceeding to her relatives in Ramdaspeth itself by walking the distance at 10.45 am on Tuesday. When Varsha reached near gate of Dagdi Park in front of Nirmal Ganga Apartment, three unidentified accosted her and posing as policemen told her that a theft has taken place in the area yesterday night and she should keep her gold ornaments in a packet. Varsha immediately removed her gold bangles and chain and started keeping them in a packet. At the same time, resorting to same modus operandi of helping her and diverting her attention, the three goons posing as policemen kept the gold booty worth Rs 45,000 in their pockets instead of Varsha’s bag. Only after the bogus cops vanished from the spot, did Varsha realize that she has been tricked and robbed of her gold valuables. What was left for Vasha was to approach Sitabuldi Police Station and lodge a complaint. The Senior PSI Shende booked the three goons posing as policemen under Sections 419, 420, 34 of the IPC and probing the matter further.

In the third incident, Rohini Chandrashekhar Khandalkar (61), resident of 135, Parth Complex, Nelco Society, Subhash Nagar, Nagpur fell victim to the fake policemen. Rohini was returning home after purchasing new Sim card and when she reached near Akshay Enterprises Shop in Subhash Nagar, two men in the age group of 30-35 years came near to her. The two criminals told Rohini that they are policemen and that a theft has occurred at Puja Verma’s house. In a scary tactic, Rohini too was told to remove her gold jewellery and keep them safely in her purse. One bogus policeman took out a piece of paper and started writing description of Rohini’s gold ornaments. The fake cops removed her gold valuables and pretended as keeping them in her purse but instead grabbed the gold ornaments worth Rs 1, 40, 000 for themselves and fled the spot within seconds. Rohini too noticed the empty purse after some time and lodged a complaint with Pratap Nagar Police Station. PSI Halami registered an offence under Sections 420, 170, 34 of the IPC and is hunting the two bogus policemen.
