After ten years of the proposal, the Bhoomipujan ceremony of the new administrative building of Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) is scheduled to be held on September 26, 2015.

Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis and Chairman of Bajaj Auto Limited Rahul Bajaj will be symbolically breaking the ground with a pick-axe as part of the Bhoomipujan ceremony.

The ground breaking ceremony will be held in the land next to the Vice-Chancellor’s Bungalow on the road connecting University Square on Amravati Road to Ambazhari Square.

Chairman of Bajaj Auto Limited Rahul Bajaj has donated Rs 10 crores for the construction of this Administrative building. This building will be named Late Jamnalal Bajaj New Administrative Building of RTMNU, informed Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr Pramod Yeole while addressing a press meet recently.

Dimensions of New Administrative Building
The new administrative building is coming up at a 44-acre land near University Campus at a total cost of Rs 24.52 crore. The Chief Engineer of RTMNU who was at the spot said that the proposed New Administrative building is said to be 42 Meters in Breadth (137.795 feet) and 120 Meters in Length (393.701 feet). That is the building will be 16535.43 square feet. The building is expected to be completed within two years. According to the Engineer, this building will have ground plus two floors. However, the Engineer claimed that the foundation is going to be laid to house ground plus three floors.
He added that the building will be of E-shape.

New Administrative building to house all departments

The New Administrative Building will house all the departments of RTMNU under one roof. Most of the office from the RTMNU Building situated opposite to Maharajbagh will be shifted to the New Administrative Building.

According to sources, the ground floor will house the offices of the Vice Chancellor, Pro Vice Chancellor, Registrar, BCUD Director, Finance and Accounts Officer, Director Student Welfare and other officials. The building will also have a Senate Hall, Management Council Hall, Sitting room, Student Facility Centre and other offices.

The university engineer Sheshrao Gaze informed that it will follow all the compliance of the green building. There will be three staircases and three lifts in the building. This Building is made with a provision of vertical expansion scope in the future. About 10,500 university staff would be working in the administrative building. The building will be of E-shape. The total construction area of the building will be 137.795 square foot.

Examination Department to continue in old-building
According to sources, the Examination department will continue in the old building, since the office is situated in a central place approachable by all students from all over Nagpur.

Old University Building may become a memorial

According to sources, the old RTMNU Building may be converted into a Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj’s memorial museum. Various hall and rooms in the building may house the memorablia of Tukadoji Maharaj.

Bhumipujan Programme
After the ground breaking ceremony, a programme will also be held at Gurunanak Bhavan at 11 am in the presence of Rahul Bajaj. Vice chancellor of RTMNU Dr S P Kane will preside over the function and pro-vice chancellor Dr Pramod Yeole also will be present in the programme.
