New Delhi: Arun Lakhani, Chairman and Managing Director of Vishvaraj Group has been named the ‘Most Promising Business Leader of Asia’ at the recently held Asian Business Leaders Conclave 2017 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The Asian Business Leaders Conclave is a platform for the biggest business leaders of Asia along with bureaucrats to converge and facilitate conversations on Asia as a business hub and the role of the rising business leaders.
The award was presented to Mr. Lakhani by Malaysia Minister for International Trade and Industry, Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed at an event held in Kuala Lumpur. Mr Lakhani was voted from amongst business leaders and government dignitaries from Asian powers like India, China, Malaysia, Japan, Singapore, Indonesia, UAE and Taiwan.
On the recognistion, Mr. Arun said, “It is indeed heartening to see one’s efforts being acknowledged at international forums. Such recognitions makes us more aware of our responsibilities towards the citizens, as a leading water utility. It also motivates us to continue innovate and provide solutions to the environment and urban infrastructure issues in a sustainable way for our future generations”.
Asian Business Leaders Conclave takes stock of the developments in Asian economy in the last year and act as a melting pot for thought leaders, governments and business leaders to further the cause of greater economic integration between emerging and leading countries in the region. It also acts as a focal point for discussion between ASEAN, India and the Middle East. It acknowledges business leaders who are going to play an important part in shaping the business demographics of not just Asia, but also the world in the very near future.
Brief about Arun Lakhani
Arun Lakhani, CMD of the Vishvaraj group, is a pioneer in urban water supply and waste water reuse projects in Nagpur. Both projects are based on the performance linked PPP models and deployed for the first time in India. Nagpur 24×7 project was acknowledged as best practice by Prime Minister Narendra Modi whereas the reuse project was seconded by the Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore at the Delhi Economics Conclave 2017. It is worthwhile to mention that NITI Ayog too has acknowledged both the projects as models for the other cities in India to replicate.
Mr. Lakhani believes in taking PPP to 4P model – the 4th P being People as citizens, without whose on-boarding and active participation, social projects like water are difficult to succeed.
The concept of Citizen Onboarding in PPP is the USP of his unique Leadership.
Apart from his involvement in business, he is also active on academic and social front. He is the founder of SEA Foundation that promotes his mantra of Sustainability, Efficiency and Accountability. He is an active member of the leading Indian industry bodies including Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) and Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM).
He has been awarded as One of 50 Most Impactful Leaders in Water and Water Management Internationally by World CSR Day.
Apart from this Technocratic Aptitude, he is socially active and deeply involved in several social initiatives. He is member of National Body of Bharat Rural Livelihood Foundation (BRLF), a Government of India funded social organization and is President of Runadhar Trust, a noble initiative to provide skill development training and monthly monetary assistance to the kin of Vidarbha farmers who committed suicide. He is President of Laxmanrao Mankar Trust which is running more than 500+ Ekal Vidyalaya for children from the tribal, remote and naxal affected areas of the state.
He is also the President of Maharashtra Badminton Association, and it was under his leadership, that the recently concluded 82nd Senior National Badminton Championship was acknowledged as a game changer for Badminton as a sport in India.
