Anushka Sharma- I won't propogate anything that propagates right or wrong!

None would deny that one of the most widely accepted definitions of beauty is being simply what you are! The more comfortably you carry yourself, the more beautiful you look. No fairness creams can make you feel beautiful but your self-confidence. Gone are the days when fairness creams ruled the Indian market. In fact, people have stopped relying on the old-myth of fairness creams being analogous to beauty.
However, endorsements of such creams cannot be brought to a halt. At some point of time, there was an upsurge in the fairness cream market because of this! While there were many in favor of fairness creams, there were celebs, who said a resounding ‘no’ for this fairness thing.
Adding to the list of such celebrities, now we have Anushka Sharma who denied to endorse a Fairness cream.
Anushka, who is known to believe in beauty deriving from comfort, opined that these fairness creams propagate racism and sexist beliefs. She said she will not propagate anything that says this is right or wrong.
This is not the first time that Bollywood has taken a stand for this cause. Many actresses like Kangana and Nandita have done the same, with even Ranbir Kapoor in the list!
Kangana Ranaut turned down a 2 Crore deal which endorsed fairness cream. She had her reasons too. She said she couldn’t go ahead with such an offer because she has a sister who is not fair, but she is equally beautiful.
Earlier in 2009, Lever has also identified Fair & Lovely as one of its 30 power brands. Well, this just goes on to say that fairness creams were amongst the dominating products in the market.
The message dished out by these fairness manufacturers, has always nurtured the Indian beauty myth – dark is ugly, fair is lovely giving rise to racism. Still, we have some people who really need to broaden their outlook and stop believing in this beauty myth.
Respect everyone, spread love!
