Nagpur: “Extra alertness” on the part of a woman could not save her from robbing her gold ornaments worth Rs 2.20 lakh as she made a mistake of keeping the house door ajar. A burglar sniffed out the gold booty kept under a drum and made his escape good.

The complainant Sarla Shravan Varade (50), resident of Plot No. 6/125, Somwaripeth, Sakkardara, showing alertness had hidden her gold ornaments worth Rs 2.20 lakh under a wheat drum with the aim of preventing theft. However, between August 8 and 19, a burglar, taking advantage of open door, entered Sarla’s house and sniffed out the valuables. Meanwhile, Sarla checked her gold booty but was shocked to find it missing.

Sakkardara API Fulakwar, based on a complaint of Sarla, has registered a case under Section 380 of the IPC and searching the burglar.
