Sunita created a world record by applying Mehendi for 72 hours at a stretch. The previous Guinness Book of World Record was in the name of equally outstanding Mehendi artist Ketki Hardas who had drawn Mehendi on 270 hands in 50 hours. However, the record was broken by Sunita Dhote who applied the Mehendi on 475 hands in 50 hours and the record-breaking feat was “announced” by the loud and non-stop clapping by those who were present at the venue.

The Orange City carved out a glorious history when the city was put on the world map by dazzlingly colourful, vivacious and artistic hands of a girl. And the girl herself made a signature history when the Guinness Book of World Records described her name in golden letters.
The girl is none other than Sunita Dhote, the ace Mehendi artist. Sunita created a world record by applying Mehendi for 72 hours at a stretch. Nobody in his/her dream would have imagined the Mehendi, the artistic hallmark of Indian tradition since the eras of epics Ramayana and Mahabharat, Raja-Maharaja to today’s glory in every celebration like marriages, would be written in golden letters.
The artist Sunita started her adventure in the afternoon of Tuesday and created the world record on Friday. Sunita applied Mehendi continuously for 12 hours on the first day without any break. When she completed 51 hours of her mission record, the noted singer Sunil Waghmare announced the hours by bursting 51-foot cracker “Ladi” (line of crackers) at the venue Gurudeo Sewashram premises. Sunita completed 54 hours of applying Mehendi on Thursday itself on her way to the world record. She had carved out the Mehendi on 475 hands till that moment. Sunita’s excitement and passion was to be seen to be believed. She was engrossed in her venture with same enthusiasm as was expected from the Day-1 itself.
