Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Wednesday netted an Estate Engineering Assistant, working in Divisional Office (South) of Nagpur Improvement  Trust, red handed while accepting bribe of Rs 15,000 for carrying out demolition of unauthorized construction.

According to ACB, the unidentified complainant owned two plots numbering 17 and 18 in Mauza Bidipeth, Khasra No. 59, Shivangi Housing Society, Nandanvan. He carried out construction on the plots without sanctioning of maps. Some tenants were also staying in the unauthorized construction. The Nagpur Improvement Trust , Divisional Office (South), subsequently issued notices to the tenants and the complainant plot owner for demolition of the illegal construction. However, the tenants procured stay from the courts against demolition notice. After some days, the NIT informed that the stay has been lifted. But the tenants were not ready to vacate. Hence NIT asked the complainant to make available police bandobast for demolition of the said illegal construction. Accordingly, the complainant deposited money twice for police bandobast. But NIT did not initiate any action for demolishing the unauthorized construction. Fed with no action, the complainant again submitted an application to NIT’s South Division on April 28 for demolishing the said illegal construction. However, this time, the Estate Engineering Assistant (Class 3) Chandrakant Dharamdas Nagrare (48) demanded a bribe of Rs 15,000 from the complainant for demolition of the said illegal construction. Taken aback by the bribe demand, the complainant approached the ACB sleuths and alerted them.

The ACB sleuths, armed with the complaint, laid a trap on Wednesday (May 6) at Division Office (South) of NIT. During the trap, the ACB sleuths found the accused Estate Engineering Assistant Chandrakant Nagrare demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 15,000 from the complainant. As soon as Nagrare pocketed the bribe money, ACB sleuths caught him red-handed. Later, an offence against Nagrare was registered at Ajni Police Station under relevant Sections of Prevention of Corruption Act 1988.

The action was carried out by Police Inspectors Vasudeo Dabre, Asaram Shete, Police Constables Vilas Khanke, Santosh Pundkar, Ajay Yadav, Chandranag Taksande, and others.
