Education about puberty, menstrual cycle and sex should be imparted compulsorily to all teenage girls.

IMG_9339Nagpur News : Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Institute of Management Studies and Research, Nagpur and Bhagini Mandal organized an Interactive Session on the topic “Mothers are forever”, Connecting daughter for family, on the occasion of ‘International Women’s Day’. Secretary of Nagpur Obstetrics and Gynecologist Society (NOGS) Dr. Alka Mukherjee, was the speaker for the seminar. Young college students and members of the Bhagini Mandal participated in the session.  Dr. Alka Mukherjee created awareness on various facets of women’s health and guided the ladies and young girls about why the bonding and a cordial relationship between mother and daughter is important.  Dr. Alka Mukherjee said that a mother should be concerned about all facets of her daughter’s life in order to keep her safe secure and healthy in every situation.

Only effective interaction between mother and daughter can solve the teenage problems which a young girl faces said Dr. Alka Mukherjee. She also talked about peer-pressure, the stressful situations that the young generation goes through in their everyday life, and how one can handle these problems etc.

While interacting with the ladies and the girls present in the session, she told that most of the mothers in our Indian society don’t interact with their daughters effectively which causes most of the problems to aggravate. Often it so happens that since there is nobody in the girl’s home with whom she can confide and share her personal problems, often chooses the wrong path or the wrong person to confide her problems and either is led to commit blunders or commits it herself which affects her life adversely. This is why, is becomes very pertinent for a mother to interact with her angelic daughter and become her best friend.

During the session, Prof. Ajay Gidwani of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Institute of Management Studies and Research, Nagpur was also present. While talking to Nagpur Today he said that, education about puberty, menstrual cycle and sex should be made compulsory to all the teenage girls. Even the mothers should talk and discuss with their daughters on these topics and tell her daughter about these sensitive issues. He added that in our Indian society, people hesitate to talk and discuss on these vital issues and this is the reason why teenage girls don’t get proper information and guidance hence they commit slip-ups.
