55 Green buses to start plying in city from Nov 15

Nagpur: The Second Capital City of Nagpur is in for good news as the much publicized and awaited Green buses will start running on city streets from November 15. 55 environment-friendly bases will be in the service apart from more than regular 170 red buses.

A meeting of NMC’s Transport Committee was held on Wednesday in the presence of Municipal Commissioner Shravan Hardikar. The meeting decided to allot four places for parking and maintenance/repairs of all buses. The four places include 5 acres of Mahagenco in Koradi, 5 acres in Gorewada, 8 acres in Vathoda and 16 acres in Bhandewadi.

The meeting was also attended by Additional Commissioner Ravindra Kumbhare, Estate Officer Bhute, Chairman of Transport Committee Narendra (Balya) Borkar, and other concerned officials.

Borkar said that all parking places will have facility to accommodate 120 buses each. The 55 Green buses will stationed at the places allotted in Khapri and Wadi. Sweden’s Scania company will provide the Green buses. “The designated three operators will have to purchase 65 buses each for services in the city. Similarly, the present operator will also have to operate all its buses simultaneously. This time the NMC will get share of each bus fares, revenue from advertisements put on buses, rent from bus operators for the lands allotted to them,” Borkar stated.
