Nagpur: The rural parts of Nagpur district are in no way lagging behind the Second Capital City of Nagpur when it comes to crimes. 41 murders, 97 rapes, 212 molestations, 62 robberies and other crimes were among the 4367 crimes registered by Nagpur Rural Police in the year 2017.
The statistics were revealed by the rural cops in reply to an RTI query posed by activist Abhay Kolarkar.
In all 73 accused persons were arrested in connection with 41 murder cases while 101 were taken into custody for their role in 97 rape cases. Similarly, 31 accused were nabbed in 8 dacoities. In the 62 robbery cases, 85 arrests were made while seven persons were arrested in four extortion cases.
The molestation cases were on the higher scale with number of cases registered stood at 212. Cops put 218 accused behind bars in this connection. Total 89 riots were reported in the district during the period and 324 persons were charged for the crime. Six offences of attack on police were registered in the district and 32 persons were arrested for the crime. Similarly, during the period, 349 persons committed suicide in rural areas of Nagpur last year. Cops invoked the stringent MCOCA against 3 hardcore goons and at the same time externed 49 notorious criminals.
