4 convicts of Mumbai train blasts brought to Nagpur Central Jail

  • Three convicts are awaiting gallows while one convict is to serve life-term.

: Recently around 12 convicts were awarded sentences for their involvement in Mumbai train blasts. After their conviction, three convicts  sentenced to be hanged have been sent to Nagpur Central Jail, while two other convicts sentenced to be hanged in the same case have been housed in Amravati Central Jail.

These four convicts were brought amid very tight security. Apart from the specialized police officials of Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS), there were one Police Inspector, one Assistant Police Inspector, two Police Sub Inspector and 10 other policemen from Mumbai came with the convicts by Vidarbha Express at around 9:05 am. They alighted at the Nagpur Main Station. From there, the ATS personnel from Nagpur, Police personnel from the Control Room, Special Branch had escorted the convicts to the Nagpur Central Prison. Even the Police personnel of the Dhantoli Police Station were with the squad since the Nagpur Central Prison falls under their jurisdiction.

Tight security was maintained till the convicts reach the Nagpur Central Prison. Till the time of filing the story, the names of the prisoners could not be ascertained.

There are thirty cells for the convicts sentenced to be hanged and are awaiting the gallows. Of these 30 cells, 15 cells are already occupied by other convicts waiting to be hanged. These three convicts (sentenced in Mumbai train blasts case) will now join the other 15. (Making a total of 18 convicts waiting to be hanged).
