3 members of family arrested for thrashing two Mayo doctors on duty

Nagpur: Three members of a family, the relatives of a patient, went on a rampage in Mayo Hospital and abused and thrashed two doctors and other staff over a patient’s death. The accused also ransacked a bed and other material in Paying Ward of the Hospital. All the three accused, including a woman, have been booked under a slew of sections and placed under arrest.

The trouble started when the patient, Rekha Thakre (45), was admitted in Mayo Hospital and was being treated by Dr Vijay Dattatray Walve (30), staying in Room No. 84, New Residents Hostel, Mayo Hospital, and his colleague Dr Nilesh. However, the patient died of complications while undergoing treatment. The patient’s death turned the accused relatives furious and they started creating ruckus in the hospital itself. The accused Ketan Moreshwar Thakre (29), Harshad Moreshwar Thakre (20) and Sonali Moreshwar Thakre (20), all residents of Girja Nagar, Bhandewadi, Pardi, in a fit of anger started hurling abuses on Dr Walve and Dr Nilesh and even heckled and manhandled them. Moreover, the rampaging accused Thakre family ransacked a bed and other material of Paying Ward of the Hospital.

Based on a complaint lodged by Dr Walve, Tehsil Lady PSI A D Wadatkar booked the accused family members under Sections 353, 152, 504, 34 of IPC read with Sub-Section 3 of Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, 1984 and Sub-Section 3 of Medicare Service Persons & Medicare Service Institution (Prevention of Violence, Damage or Loss to Property) Act, Maharashtra 2010 and placed them under arrest.
