2 schools, dozens of other properties seized by NMC to recover tax dues from evaders

In a major operation, the Tax Assessing Department of Nagpur Municipal Corporation on Wednesday (November 26) cracked down on high-profile defaulters of Property Tax in eight zones by seizing their properties and recovering the pending amounts in lakhs. Two properties housing two schools were among several houses that were seized by the NMC.

In Laxmi Nagar Zone’s Ward No. 75, the NMC seized the House No. 3644/1 having Vidyavikas Vihar Public School and recovered Rs 2,41,285 as Property Tax dues. Similarly, the House No. 3643/D/72 housing Saibaba Lokseva Sanstha’s Arun Kalode Vidyalaya, Khamla, was seized and an amount of Rs 4,87,544 as Property Tax dues was recovered.

In Dharampeth Zone, 14 properties were seized and Rs 15,32,000 have been recovered from house owners towards pending Property Tax amount.
In Hanuman Nagar Zone, a staggering Rs 35.69 lakh was recovered by the NMC through warrant action and seizure of 14 properties.
The property owners Ashok Jivandhar Bhagwatkar in Janaki Nagar and Narayan Uttamrao Wankhede in Old Shukrawari, both in Ward No. 20 of Nehru Nagar Zone faced the tough action when NMC seized House No. 4603/201/F/1 and House No. 225 respectively of both the defaulters. Amounts of Rs 2,37,420 and Rs 23,820 were recovered from both Bhagwatkar and Wankhede.
In Satranjipura Zone, House No. 239/A of Dr Shahim Khan in Ward No. 47 was seized and Rs 58,105 were recovered from the non-payer of property tax.
In Lakadganj Zone, Warrant Actions against Property Tax evaders were initiated and an amount of Rs 2 lakh was recovered by the NMC.
In Ashi Nagar Zone’s Ward No. 57, House No. 72/A of Ramrao Krushna Kumbhare was seized for pending Property Tax of Rs 17,904 while House No. 733 of Laxmibai Chindhuji Bhote was seized for evading the tax of Rs 3,53,104.
Similarly, a property of Chaurey in Mangalwari Zone was seized and the dues amounting to Rs 60,000 were recovered.

The NMC has appealed the property holders to pay their tax within the stipulated time to avoid the warrant and seizure actions.
